The Police and Fire Departments

Welcome NYS Police!

The NYS Police have relocated there offices to the new safety building at Village hall. They transferred from Canisteo where they were stationed since the late 1970’s. The troopers moved in to their new location on August 10th. The current station will house 4 troopers with 2 more to arrive within the month. This station  covers the area from Arkport to Howard and south to the Pennsylvania border. They are attached to the Wayland station which covers this area during the overnight hours. Our community receives 24 hour coverage.
Attached to the front of the building is an auto phone to be used in emergency situations. Push the red button and it automatically dials to the 911 center. You speak directly to the box. No need to pick up a phone.
We would like to welcome the troopers to our Village and wish them safe traveling!

There will be increased traffic on Cleveland Ave. with the beginning of school and sports related activities at the North Hornell School. More patrols are scheduled to monitor this area. We have many adult walkers and children on bikes, so please obey the speed

Local Law #1-2010 was passed on September 27,2010

RESOLVED: That the proposal be accepted by the Village of North Hornell Board of Trustees to amend 131-26 of the Village of North Hornell Code to wit, that the maximum speed limit on school days between the hours of 7am to 6pm  for that segment of Cleveland Ave located between Wells Avenue through Bowen Avenues to Seneca Road be established at Twenty (20) miles per hour.

Words From the Chief

Dear Village Residents,

The officers and members of the North Hornell Fire Department would like to thank everyone for their very generous donations at our spring booster drive and our September boot drive. Your donations have allowed us to finish equipping the ladder truck and to purchase and start equipping our rescue truck. A little update on our membership, we now have 31 active firefighters with several applications pending. We continue to accept new applications. Our auxiliary is up and running and doing very well. They currently have 11 members. New members are welcome. A little more on the serious side: Carbon Monoxide is a silent killer - a colorless, odorless gas that is a byproduct of combustion. It is generated by oil furnaces, barbecues and automobiles. A carbon monoxide leak in your home or business can be fatal. To prevent the possibility of being over come by this very deadly gas, remember to have carbon monoxide detectors installed in your home and business. Remember also to prevent the possibility of a chimney fire or furnace fire from occurring, have your chimney or furnace checked each year before it is used.
Again, thank you for your support in our booster and boot drive this past year. Without your continued support and generosity many things we do would not be possible.

Sincerely,

Mike Robbins-Fire Chief
